I suspect the chief reason for making a quick decision about storage units is room. You’ve got boxes, you may have to jump over things to get through the living room and any unit will do. And here’s the catch – click here for more information!
First, how often do you need the unit? If it’s more than once a month, access is much more important than cost. Saves you money, but what if it’s Monday?
Then there’s access. Some 24-hour access is better than others. Some are straightforward: in, out, done. Others have multiple barriers, dimly lit hallways or other arcane rules that emerge after you’re signed up. You can’t read this on the web. You can feel it when you are there.
Price is another consideration. This is not the price. Well, the discount is over, the fees start and the monthly price is a tad more. Not a lot, but it’s a pain in the arse that you would have liked to know about in advance.
What are you storing? Humidity matters. Humidity is important if you are storing clothes, documents or electronics. Some units do it well.Others. you know in a month or so when it feels wrong.Others. you’ll notice after a month or so when it doesn’t feel right.Others. you’ll feel in a month or so. Others… you’ll notice after a few weeks when things feel off.
Security is about the product and not being inconsistent. You see cameras and locks and access control. it’s about feel of being observed You can feel when you walk through it? And it’s usually right.
And one that’s not really discussed: exit? Leases are not free. How long, how much, the minimum time you need to stay in a lease they slip in until you want to leave. I want to know that in advance.
These questions aren’t complicated. It’s just they aren’t obvious. But they are not immediately obvious.
A storage unit is not a storage unit, it is part of your house. You want it, you use it, you don’t notice it, you use it again. If it works, you don’t notice. If not, you notice it.
If you save time in the back you will spend a little extra time in the front.
